Informatics never sleeps.

Authorised students and staff normally have access 24/7.

When working alone:

  1. You must not engage in hazardous activities.
  2. You should ensure that no strangers enter by tailgating or deception.
  3. You should ensure that someone would raise the alarm if you failed to leave because of some mishap or accident.
    • Ensure someone responsible, a "buddy", is aware of your plans, and is informed of your comings and goings. This could, for example, be a "buddy" working with you, or someone at home. Your buddy should know where you will be working and be advised to call security (contact details below) if there is an emergency or cause for concern.
    • If no one else is available, you can, and should, check in and out with UniversitySecurity by telephoning the non-emergency number - 0131 650 2257.
In cases of emergency, University staff and students should notify University Security on 2222. This number is only available from the University internal telephone system.

Anyone outwith the University's internal telephone system, including staff/students in residences or those calling from a mobile phone, should, in emergency, dial (0131) 650 2257.

As always, you should not provide access to unauthorised persons. Any visitors outside normal working hours must be accompanied. If you doubt the bona fides of anyone on University premises, particularly out-of-hours, call security at the earliest opportunity.
