In the summer of 2007 the School of Informatics will move to become collocated in the Central Area. This portion of the Wiki is intended for information and discussion that will help us plan and execute an orderly move to our new situation.

Planning for Collocation

13 March 2006

We have a mock-up of the standard FORUM office on the 4th floor of the Appleton Tower (thanks to Hugh Cameron, Rob MacGregor and Douglas Howie for a speedy and excellently engineered construction, and to all in CISA/AIAI for hosting this installation). We will use this to experiment with furniture layouts, door placement and such-like. This is an abstract representation of the space; it does not try to address other important issues: finishes, lighting, decoration, services etc.

For the time being, it looks very bare. Until furniture is installed you may find it helpful to compare it with other occupied space. It is slightly (about 500mm) smaller than the adjacent printer space on level 4.

On Thursday 23rd this "room" will house an audiovisual installation by students from Architecture. Drop by and take a look!

What, where, when?

Information about plans for individual buildings should be found on (or added to) the relevant page:
  • DICEAppletonTower will house undergraduate and MSc teaching, the ITO, workshops, commercial research and consultancy, commercialisation and technology transfer. It will also provide University-managed facilities for teaching and conferences, the MathsBase , and Office of Life-Long-Learning.
  • The InformaticsForum will house the vast majority of academics, research students and support staff, together with InSpace - an exhibition area at the junction of Crichton Street and Potterrow.
  • 1 GeorgeSquare (MVM) will house Human Cognitive Neuroscience, including wet-lab facilities relevant to the neuroinformatics DTC.
  • PhaseTwoA (HSS) will house Linguistics, Philosophy, and CognitiveImaging .

Your questions may already be answered in the CollocationFAQ - if not, please add them!
