Things To Do

  • (Carried forward) The student management committee shall create signs for the kitchen: please wash and dry your dishes and a sign stating that this kitchen is on a trail period.
  • (Carried forward) Neil shall look into obtaining plants.
  • (Carried forward) Stuart shall look into obtaining art.
  • (Carried forward) Stuart shall talk to Computer Support about the beeps: this needs to be resolved before the exam period.
  • Stuart or Neil shall ensure that there is enough paper left by the printers on Friday so that the paper does not run out over the weekend.
  • Stuart shall look into improving response rates with course feedback questionnaires: more tick-boxes instead of being forced to write something for each aspect. There should be one box at the end where you can write things; for example, "What do you think should be done differently next year?"
  • Stuart shall look into unifying the information required by lecturer's when submitting coursework; work should be submitted anonymously. Why do lecturers need to see our names, or even matriculation numbers? An examination number is a valid unique identifier. This shall be taken to the teaching committee next month.
  • Sarah shall work out the pattern of how much time is spend completing each assignment.
  • Stuart shall look into creating guidance for preparing practical handouts: time estimates, how marks are allocated etc.
  • Stuart shall look into opening up Introduction to Java programming to students who have not participated in the Java Informatics courses. The lectures shall be recorded and uploaded to the Internet so students can learn at their own pace.
  • Stuart shall make more quiet lab notices and send an email.
  • Stuart shall organise access to the colour printers for members of an SDP group.

  • Condor is available to Ug4 students provided they have the approval of their supervisor. It should be possible with Ug3 students as well.
  • The Wiki page has been reorganised.
  • The computing officers do not have the mechanism for accounting or quota ring printer usage so they are reluctant to provide free colour printer usage.

What are we going to do about people having too many deadlines on one week? Possibly by having the choice for each student to select when your deadlines for each course should be in a 3 week period. These will be chosen in advance and feedback cannot be given until every student has submitted their assignments (which could be up to 3 weeks later).
