Agenda

  • KB bus: university decided to discontinue KB bus service to Dick Vet. What are the reasons for that? What can be done to change that back to the way it was?
  • Lights in Appleton Tower: some of the lights need replacing on the 5th floor.
  • Privacy issues: some members of staff forward student's emails without their permission. Students do this too. Could awareness be raised?
  • Anonymous coursework marking: why do students still have to add their name when submitting their coursework?

Notes re above Agenda [taken by Neil McGillivray ]

KB Bus - Informatics was unaware of this change but will contact Transport Section to see why the change was made, and whether the Dick Vet stop can be reinstated (particularly as it can be useful for access to Marchmont and Pollock Halls)

Lights in AT - The ITO will check level 5 later today and report any faulty lights before the end of the week. Note that the ITO has recently reported a broken window bracket, faulty radiators and problems with the water heater in the level 3 kitchen. We believe that Estates & Buildings are on top of all of these issues. - The ITO will put signs up on levels 3, 4 and 5 telling students to email the ITO if they notice any building related faults on these floors. All computing faults should continue to be reported to the Computer Support team (now in Room 4.11)

Privacy Issues with Forwarding of Email - Stuart Anderson pointed out that staff and students should try to adopt the following rules when working with Email; that you should consider any mail that you send to be a public document, and that you should never follow text from someone else's mail without their permission.

Anonymous Marking - Neil McGillivray confirmed that, from the start of Sem 2, it is School policy to encourage all students to submit manual coursework assignments using only their examination number. It has been difficult to incorporate the examination number on the submit programme, meaning that students should continue to use their matriculation number when submitting electronically until a solution can be found. - Stuart Anderson will mail all students, copied to teaching staff, to confirm these submission arrangements.

SDP Key Store - Neil McGillivray confirmed that there will be a secure key safe installed at the west end of level 3, enabling students to access the SDP Lab (3.09) key at all times. Further information will be available once this box has been installed.. hopefully by early next week.

Lockers in Level 3 Kitchen - Neil McGillivray confirmed that these lockers have finally arrived, but can't be advertised for student use until they are secured into position. Again, this should happen early next week.
