Notes from the TLRP TEL seminar on Capacity Building (16/1/2007)

  • 4 main "research challenges" were in the call - many proposals did not mention ANY of them:
    • personalization
    • inclusion
    • flexibility
    • productivity
  • don't just mention them for the sake of it, show how you address them. you don;t need to address ALL of them....
  • there were very few references to "capacity building" in the proposals
  • you must demonstrate awareness of TLRP's aims
  • Interdisciplinarity is key
  • Keen to get new young researchers into the field
  • Users of the tech should be active participants, not passive subjects
  • Need more awareness of the other TLRP projects - look at their website http://www.tlrp.org/, and make use of existing/former TLRP work
  • If possible involve teacher-resarchers in the project
  • Can you bring commercial partners in ?
  • Proposals need a "theoretical framework" (proposals from CS were strong on this)
  • Proposals shuld state how to evaluate learning outcomes - but this is more that pre- and post- tests: what do you mean by "learning" and how can you measure it?
  • there is a key feedback report from Andrew Pollard, director of TLRP somewhere at http://www.tlrp.org/ (i can't find it) that we should read.
