---+ Welcome to the Database Group at Edinburgh

The School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh has a new and growing database group. It is part of the Laboratory for the Foundations of Computer Science; it leads the research activities of the <a target="_blank">[[http://www.dcc.ac.uk/][Digital Curation Centre]]</a>; and it has connections with the [[http://www.nesc.ac.uk/][National e-Science Centre]] and other organizations involved with scientific databases. The group participates in the [[http://www.delos.info/][DELOS]] Network of Excellence on Digital Libraries.

Interests of the group span all aspects of database systems and theory. Topics of current interest include semistructured data and [[http://www.w3.org/XML/][XML]], data integration, novel approaches to query processing and storage, data provenance, archiving and annotation. Many of these topics are relevant to _scientific data management_, an area in which Edinburgh has unique strengths.
