Name The Wake-Up Service
Description The web page at wake.inf can be used to wake a sleeping computer.
Machines and users are registered with it using the lcfg-wolclient
component. When a user visits the (cosign-authenticated) web page,
the CGI there consults the LCFG data which has been constructed from
the wolclient resources, and shows the user a list of computers which
the user has permission to wake. When the user selects a computer and clicks
the "Wake the Computer" button, the CGI causes a magic packet to be sent
to the machine, waking it from sleep. It was intended to be used to wake
peoples' own desktop office machines, but could have other uses too.

Review Status University Equivalent Unsuitable
Review Details The university wake-up service depends on routing features which our network does not have; we would also need to kludge together some way of getting inventory/machine details from our systems to theirs.
Dependencies Our system uses a couple of Infrastructure servers, mainly because they're on all the necessary subnets. Other servers on lots of subnets could be used instead.
The system is dependent on LCFG in multiple ways.
Redundancy There's no redundancy in the server itself but it can be replaced quickly.
