SL7 Server progress to 15th August 2016
The table and graph at the top of this page summarise the entire progress from the start of the SL7 server project to the middle of August.
The rest of this page concentrates on progress since
the last report.
Tickets resolved so far in August
Some of these topped the "blockers" list until they were resolved:
Blockers?
These tickets are not yet resolved and have several other tickets depending on them. If one of these is yours, see if you can do something to help the dependent tickets along.
Progress by unit
User Support
After prolonged negotiations, three further server retirements have been agreed (mercury, venus, enceladus).
User Support tracks its upgrade progress at
Sl7USUnitUpgrade.
Research and Teaching
- Theon has been well and truly upgraded to SL7; see the minutes of the most recent operational meeting for details.
- Another GPU machine (vetinari) has been upgraded, with another (rendlesham) on the way.
- RAT is negotiating with research groups over server upgrades.
Managed Platform
- Both SSH servers have been upgraded to SL7.
- The first NX server upgrade happens tomorrow.
- We've found suitable-looking
qemu-kvm
packages for the SL7 KVM servers. Two of the KVM servers are on SL7 and ready for use, but the bulk of servers still need to be upgraded.
Infrastructure
Toby's been testing prometheus with the latest Moose, with mixed success.
Ian has closed several tickets (see above): lcfg-nut, dice-nut, forum-server-room.h, at-server-room.h.
Services
So far this month, we have been concentrating on the big ticket items, namely AFS-server, tibs client and starting to look at Wordpress. Since we had the bonnet up on the password portal anyway, we now have an SL7 password portal which will be brought into service as soon as some issues with Prometheus and the latest version of Moose are sorted out.
