Completion Report for Project Submission

Final report for the #270 Project Submission computing project. This was requested for both UG4/5 and PGT projects to streamline our existing mechanism principally for external examiner access but also to improve the projects archive. The specification evolved somewhat from the original project description over time - see the blog and/or project homepage snapshot (270.pdf) for the final agreed deliverables. This was initially achieved by modifications to the existing service on www.inf but then security access concerns were raised. This resulted in the creation of a dedicated server/service. This had many benefits, including a complete rejig of the configuration into a single LCFG header, adhoc www CGI scripts into a Subversion DICE repository package for RPM deployment and a move to AFS back-end storage - none of these were technically part of the original project brief.

In total this project:

  • took a little bit over three and a half weeks effort

Once the service went live some enhancements were requested. Some of these were done (as they were considered lightweight wins and effort has been included in above) but others have been left as followup work, probably as an additional project.
