MPU Meeting Wednesday 3rd August 2016

Alastair has been using the new inventory API for the latest insurance valuation. This has been a good practical test and it's led him to flesh out the API's query facilities and the documentation. Once he's finished the documentation he'd like people to try out the new API. The update part of the API is still a work in progress.

A new script syncs from the old inventory to the new one.

LCFG Client Refactoring

Stephen has been writing documentation. This will take some time. So far the documentation has focussed on the Perl modules. As ever this is proving to be a useful way to show up inconsistencies and gaps in the API. These are being fixed as they are discovered.

MPU SL7 Server Upgrade

  • Neil has got waklog working. Its absence was a block on upgrading a number of our services, so we can now think about more upgrades.
  • Alastair has got the NFS component working, unblocking several upgrades in other units.
  • We've realised that fail2ban doesn't yet work for IPv6. Until it does we plan to run the SSH services on SL7 on an IPv4 only basis.
  • In the coming week we hope to upgrade, and
  • After having found that guest migration doesn't work to SL7-based KVM servers (as we don't use shared storage), we've found that it does work if we use the -ev package versions produced by the Centos Virtualization SIG. We're looking into this.

Miscellaneous Development

lcfg-fstab-1.9.0 has a new cryptopts resource for partitions. This can be used to specify crypttab options for the partition.

Nothing of note.
