MPU Meeting Monday 22nd September 2008
Buildtools Project
The
user-level documentation is now complete, but it would be a good idea for other people to read it, try it out and check that it tells them everything they need to know. Please tell Stephen about any issues at all with the documentation.
Power Management Project
The component is now up and running, and is under development. It doesn't yet do a lot.
Operational Work for CSOs
These are the tasks which it would be appropriate to hand over to one or more CSOs:
- Configure machines to use multiple monitors, and diagnose problems with them
- Configure new monitors
- Create, install and publicise the weekly snapshot testing release on a Monday morning
- Create, install and publicise the stable release on a Thursday afternoon
The MPU will continue to tackle the problems thrown up by the release testing.
Operational
- RT 37502
- Now resolved. Windows and Linux were both needed so a dual-boot self-managed solution was chosen.
- Bluetooth keyboards
- Alastair has got these working on DICE.
- SL5.2 deadline
- CEG has set a deadline of 1 November for the SL5.2 upgrade for servers.
- Install kernel
- SL5 needs a new install kernel to improve 755 support.
- LCFG and new inventory
- We're soon going to move to the transitional stage where
inv
resources will be populated from sysinfo
resources rather than vice versa. At some further point, a later stage will then be to populate sysinfo
from the new inventory database. Timing is going to be important in order to avoid losing data: for instance we will need to wait until the tools for manipulating the new inventory database are ready before making that the master. Eventually, the inventory master will be the inventory database; relevant inventory data will populate the LCFG sysinfo
data from the master; and only machines actually needing an XML profile will need an LCFG presence.
- DIY DICE support
- The documentation still needs to be finished.
- Odd profiles
- The
dice/options/out-of-service.h
header is necessary (for broken machines awaiting a fix) but wasn't being used correctly last week. The profiles concerned have been tidied up and switched to dice/hw/junk.h
. Other broken profiles were tidied too to give us a temporarily error-free LCFG service.
- Bugzilla
- Chris is working on the upgrade to the latest version.
- Forumtracker RT
- P & R has asked for some queues to be made public, but this is technically awkward. If we can't do it without a lot more work we'll fall back to the SelfService solution which has already been implemented but not announced.
- RT tidy-up
- The various RT installations should share a common LCFG configuration as far as is practical. Chris will work on it.
This Week
Alastair will:
- Update the DIY DICE docs
- Order R805s
- Explore the new buildtools some more
Chris will:
- Forumtracker RT support
- Power management project
- bugzilla upgrade
- MPU RT duty
- Explore the new buildtools some more
Stephen will:
- Write new project proposal
- Document configuring new monitors
- Look at new inventory
- Report updaterpms problem in bugzilla
