MPU Meeting 24th July 2006

Mac mini
A Mac mini has been purchased to allow software building. Chris will install and configure (ACTION: Chris)

Packages/Release problem
Stephen has found a subtle bug in the server which was causing the problem. This is now fixed. Stephen will add an appropriate regression test (ACTION: Stephen).

Touching headers when making a release
we agreed that that touching all headers before issuing a release was a pragmatic solution, but we want to revisit this sometime Sept/Oct. (Added to deferred list).

Releases mechanism for FC3
we agreed that we want to have more experience of the releases mechanism, primarily the procedural aspect, before introducing the releases mechanism for FC3 machines

Disk partition install problems
Alastair will investigate the reported problems with FC5 disk partitioning (ACTION: Alastair).

Procedures documentation
we need to build up documentation of our procedures. Alastair has created a WIKI topic (MPUInternalProcedures) as a home for these. We should now populate this, at least with placemarkers (ACTION: ALL).

installbase
Alastair will look at whether the installbase profile is still required (ACTION: Alastair).

achilles performance
we discovered that the reason for achilles' poor performance is the continual rsyncs from the LCFG servers. We should purchase a faster machine for the upgrade to FC5 and/or consider a separate server. Chris will also look at tweaking some of the LCFG servers to reduce their fetch frequency. (ACTION: Chris).

achilles log files
/disk/home/achilles has plenty of space, so Chris will look at remounting this partition as /var/lcfg/log. (ACTION: Chris)
