MPU Data Backups
The MPU has a number of servers containing master data. Most are backed up off-site using rsync+rmirror.
Rmirror backups are run by the Services Unit. They have a page which describes
how to set up a client for mirroring. The nightly results of the mirrors can be checked from each client machine using
om rmirrorclient report
or all together on the
Mirrors Report page.
Because mirrors can be moved around from time to time it no longer makes sense to list the exact mirror locations here. To find a mirror's location, first look on the results page to find the name of the mirror server used for that particular mirror; then login to that server and look in its
/disk/rmirror
partitions and/or its
qxprof rmirror
resources.
All mirrors have been checked (most recently: November 2012) to make sure that mirroring is succeeding, that it is at a separate site from the master copy, and that the mirror partition is being taped (except where noted below).
The current host of a VM can be found with
kvmtool --name myhost locate
