Policy Summaries

All Risk

Cover for specified equipment against "All Risks" which includes losses due to fire, flood, storm, theft, burst pipes and accidental damage(, whilst on University premises?). This is mainly for specialist equipment (eg robots) rather than standard office contents.

Computer

Cover for computers against "All Risks" which includes loss due to fire, flood, storm, theft, burst pipes and accidental damage (,whilst on University premises?).

  • Excess of 5000 for theft and malicious damage
  • Excess of 100,000 for material damage and data loss (250,000 for high value equipment)

The policy is separated into two halves. One section provides cover for computer equipment with a value of 10,000 or over (mainly racks of servers, storage arrays etc) and the other provides cover for laptops, desktops, printers, scanners etc.

Travel

The University has a Travel Insurance Policy for employees and students who are required to travel on University business. This policy includes cover for Personal Baggage (including laptops, mobile phones, digital cameras etc) (Single Article Limit 25% of sum insured or 1000, whichever is the greater). Cover must be arranged per trip.

Information to be sent to Insurance Office

  • All Risks - this includes all non-computer equipment e.g. robots, instrumented meeting room. Only items on this list will be covered under this policy.
  • Computers >= 10,000 - Core switches, storage arrays built from individual parts, network switches, server racks where the total value >= 10,000. This list is used to ensure that the University has sufficient cover - items not on this list will still be covered.
  • Other IT kit - Desktops, laptops, printers, tablets, monitors, servers in racks < 10,000. This list is also used to ensure sufficient cover.

Notes

  • The School takes the risk of laptops/desktops at home and in transit between home and work. Laptops should also be covered by travel insurance for any trips.
  • The School takes the risk of loss of laptops in the workplace.
  • It is expected that the appropriate Institute will cover replacement costs of equipment purchased off a research grant.
  • Deadline of submission for details to Insurance Department is 31st May but details of any significant purchases (and new items to be covered by the All Risks policy) should be sent to the Insurance Office as soon as possible.
