---+ Dell iDRAC 8 Some initial findings on the iDRAC8 management controller in the 13th generation Dell servers (e.g. R730). For our 'usual' IPMI purposes (power control, SOL console) the iDRAC seems the same as any others we have. Initial config proceeds as before. The iDRAC manual is here: ==/afs/inf.ed.ac.uk/group/mp-unit/hardware/DellDocs/iDRAC== Beyond that: * The iDRAC is presenting an ssh interface. This presents an SMCLP interface, described in chapter 18 of the iDRAC8 manual. * The iDRAC has an HTTP interface, but it needs sensitive configuration (setting up Firefox as a SOCKS proxy) to get to it. (Use [[PrinterWebInterface][these instructions]], substituting the site console server for =infcups=.) It has one helpful-looking feature: "update firmware". We should get to know this. * The iDRAC has its own dedicated NIC. We used that on _girassol_ without difficulty. Its sister machine _gaivota_ has the iDRAC connected via LOM1, that is, piggy-backed on the first normal NIC. Either connection method works. At the [[http://www.dice.inf.ed.ac.uk/operational/meetings/2016-07-27/agenda.html][Operational meeting of 27/07/16]] we decided to standardise on the piggy-back connection rather than use the iDRAC's own NIC.
