Hardware Testing

Here are some ideas on what to test if you're testing DICE on a particular hardware model to see if it works (for example if there's a new version of DICE or a new hardware model):

  • Install from CD
  • Install from PXE
  • Is graphics support working? Does it look like the correct resolution?
  • Try login to gnome and kde. For both:
    • Try firefox, particularly try websites that use kx509, Flash, java
    • Try thunderbird
    • Try locking the screen and then unlocking again
    • Try sending something to a printer (apparently not at the moment - squinney 2007/04/24)
    • Can you view a PDF file with acroread?
    • Does sound work? - Try playing a CD, realmedia stream, etc..
    • If there's a DVD player, can you play a DVD?
    • Does openoffice work?
    • Can you mount a USB device

StephenQuinney came up with the list in April 2007 in FC6HardwareTesting and ChrisCooke copied it here on 03 Jan 2008.
