Forum flood exercise 2012

Original email to COs

Over the weekend, due to torrential rain, the north roof of the Forum
server room has collapsed allowing considerable amount of water to enter
the server room. Racks 0, 1 and 2 suffered the most water damage
and the kit in these racks should be considered to be fatally damaged.

(It is suspected that heavy machinery being used to construct the next
phase of the Potterrow development has weakened the roof's bonding).

Although we are allowed to enter the Forum, we are not allowed to enter
the Server room itself due to H&S concerns. We shall have to identify
affected servers by existing records.

All units please :-

*) identify which of your kit has been affected and inform User support
   of effect on your services.
*) check that all data affected is being backed up successfully
*) test recover a service - which service to be mutually agreed with HoC
(CEG in case of MPU). This service must involve the restoring, from
   offsite backup, of data.
*) note that other services may be affected by infrastructure within
   racks 0, 1 and 2.

Produce a report on what services have been affected, state of backups,
lessons learnt etc by Monday 5th March.

To minimise the effort of this exercise on the "live" service, assume a
time slew of 1 week = 1 day.
