Forum data wiring

All data wiring is terminated in 1 of 16 IT closets. There is 1 closet in the basement, 2 closets on the ground floor, 3 closets on floors 1, 2 and 3, and 2 closets on floors 4 and 5. The closets are labelled A to C, starting from the west.

The following picture shows the closet layout on Level 2 :-

Office floorbox data ports

Data ports in offices and small meeting rooms are presented via floorboxes (6 data ports per floorbox). Each of these floorboxes is connected to a spiderbox via an umbilical cord; this allows floorboxes to be moved. Up to 8 floorboxes can be connected to each spiderbox.

The following picture shows a spiderbox. The umbilical cords are clearly visible leaving the top of the box; the cables leaving the bottom of the box are the fixed wiring to the IT closet.

The following diagram shows floorboxes (labelled F3) connecting to spiderboxes (labelled S).

The spiderboxes are connected to patchpanels (2 per spiderbox) in the IT closets. The spiderboxes are labelled D1 upwards. The following picture shows the IT closet patch panels for the spiderboxes 2/C/D3 and 2/C/D4 :-

The numbering scheme is {Level}/{Core}/{SpiderBox}/{PatchPanel}/{port} - eg 2/B/D13/1/022

Fixed and non office floorbox data ports

Data ports for fixed points in walls (eg for WAPs and printer areas) and for non-office floorboxes are wired direct to patchpanels in the closets. Each closet will have up to four patchpanels for these.

The numbering scheme is {Level}/{Core}/{Patchpanel}/{port} - eg. 2/A/P1/015

NB. Please don't modify the excel spreadsheets - they aren't the master copies!
