Final Report for Project 186 - Migration of AFS Data

When the AFS file service was originally set up, in the interests of speading the load equally, RW volumes were located on all the AFS servers including those in the KB machine room. It was realised that this left access to half the School's AFS data susceptible to problems with the network connection between KB and the central area and so with the introduction of 4 new AFS servers in the central area, it was decided to migrate all RW volumes downtown. This project managed that migration process

Time Taken

Note that this figure only covers the time taken in planning the migration by members of the Service Unit. This came to 1 FTE week. The vast majority of the actual work of migrating the data was done by CSOs as part of their unit work and as a result, exact figures are not available for this aspect of the project.

Thanks to the ease with which AFS volumes can be moved, the migration of the data was trouble free and accomplished within the target timescales.
