The project was completed within the 10 weeks allocation. SL6 turned out, thankfully, to be very similar to F13 with no major surprises requiring extra development work.
One of the goals of this project was to revamp the package lists in order to have a clear distinction between servers and desktops. This distinction allows us to reduce
the disk footprint of servers, which reduces install time and package churn (important on virtualised servers). This "revamping" work accounted for around 3 weeks of the
total project effort.
Another goal of the project had been to investigate using
NaturalDocs to mark-up headers. This does look a good idea, but we have concluded that as implementing this would involve agreement across all LCFG sites as to keywords/tags etc, we should descope this work from this project. It will carry on as MPU misc development work. Arguably we should have looked at this
before starting work on this project.
This project only covers the effort expended by MPU. Other projects are tracking effort expended by other units.
