Unit Head Meeting to Discuss FC5 Services Progress - 16/11/2006

Present: ascobie, ktd, iainr (for timc), cms, gdmr, neilb
Location: BP seminar room

Agenda and Notes

1. Are people happy that the web page:

http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/neilb/os.html

reasonably accurately reflects the lumps of hardware running your Unit's services that need FC5. If not, let me know the changes (I only need to know the machine name and/or alias eg mail.inf)

Yes. A couple of corrections during the meeting, plus some since.

2. Do the Unit's believe they will be able to complete the FC5'ing of their services by the end of year. If not, why not, and which machines will be done, and when will the others be done by?

Other

The only other note I have is "Headers status from MPU.", but I can't remember what this about.

Generally yes, with a few exceptions:

  • RAT - says "doable"
  • Services - all but print servers
  • US - can do it
  • Inf - KDC master (basilisk) to be deliberately held back till Jan. Everything else doable, though the console servers need cooperation with MPU unit as they also contain RPM slaves.
  • MPU - Yes, though bits of achilles service may wait until the new year, eg the LCFG SVN respository.

3. Any cross team dependencies? eg printing (services) will need dhcp (infrastructure)

Other than printing and dhcp, none were raised. Though Unit heads are to let Neil know of any "shared machines".

4. Assuming that there will be delays, is there anything that can be done to speed things up? Re-prioritise of Unit tasks, secondment of other staff.

Units should just re-proritise other tasks. No secondment.
