Please fill in actual activity for Last Month (April) and intended activity for This Month (May) for projects you are responsible for. For reference, the intended activity recorded for April is included where an entry had been made (it is considered unhelpful to alter this to match what actual activity was :). It is acceptable to change devproj milestones as part of this process, however if you do please indicate that you have done so below, for example by adding a Change of Plan bullet point, so that the meeting is alerted to the changes.

    • This Month: VL Store and Conduit tests

  • OpenLDAP 2.4 Upgrade
    • April: Begin porting LDAP slave servers to SL6/OpenLDAP 2.4; monitor any problems
    • Last Month: Upgraded mckinley (IF LDAP slave) and blackwell (AT LDAP slave) to SL6_64/OpenLDAP 2.4.
    • This Month: Upgrade franklin (LDAP master) to SL6_64/OpenLDAP 2.4 - unless there's a compelling reason not to do so.

  • Account reconciliation
    • April: Continue deletions
    • Last Month: minimal activity due to SL6 work taking priority
    • This Month: Unlikely to be much activity; may delete more people

  • Introduction of Drupal as the new commodity WCMS
    • April: The investigations of modules and workflow that I didn't do last month.
    • Last Month: Very little. Some informal chat with Gareth at Biological Sciences about their Drupal setup.
    • This Month: Need to update milestones as things are slipping and the order in which we'll be looking at things has changed. Though I expect Cookies will also get in the way.

  • inf-unit SL6 server platform work
    • April: Continue with upgrade process based on wiki page
    • Last Month: Kerberos: sl6 slave installed and tested; can't upgrade real slave due to co-location of afsdb service. Prometheus: sl6 server tested and necessary minor changes made to code; cannot upgrade due to perl-AFS dependency; either wait for this or do as sl6_32. Cosign/ifriend: SL6 server installed and undergoing testing. All three "external" nameservers upgraded, along with the Forum main external router.
    • This Month: Kerberos: solve afsdb problem and upgrade real slave. Prometheus: solve perl-AFS problem and test SL6 properly. Cosign/ifriend: do enough testing that we can plan to move one server to SL6. Upgrade AT external router, possibly to be followed by the Forum and AT network services machines (pending a plan to relocate the OpenVPN endpoints).

  • Simple KVM service
    • April: Sign off. Create a project to track migration from VMware to KVM.
    • Last Month: Introduced first production KVM service. Migration tracking project. Worked out how to suspend/resume guests reliably.
    • This Month: Stalled awaiting delivery of new KVM servers

  • MPU SL6 Server Upgrades
    • April: Upgrade LCFG master server. Work on perl-AFS and mod_waklog.
    • Last Month: Following upgraded - LCFG master server, packages export server, PkgForge master, openafs build server. perl-AFS requires openafs-1.6.2, not 1.6.1 as previously thought - considering a short term solution. mod_waklog now working.
    • This Month: Upgrade KB DR server (sauce).

  • School Database Revamp: Phase 1B & 2B
    • April: Implement Year/Programme layer assessment functionality and reporting (L787 replacement).
    • Last Month: Implemented Year/Programme layer assessment functionality and basic L787 replacement.
    • This Month: Complete L787 replacement.

  • KDC upgrade to 1.9
    • April: Continue to add to the page; probably bring up a test KDC, as we can't work on the slaves due to AFSDB, and we don't want to do the work on the master first.
    • Last Month: Incremental propagation tested on krb5 1.9 (sl6) machines and seems to work OK. Last [un]successful authentication fields updated correctly. This adds database updates for every (preauth-enabled) authentication so we need to check how it affects server load.
    • This Month: Do more testing with slaves.

  • Windows 7 Upgrade
    • April: Order necessary licences. Final testing with selected users and finalise rollout plan. The default firefox version will be 3.6 initially but it looks as though it will be changed to version 10 after the end of April.
    • Last Month: Delayed slightly due to holidays and waiting for IS to package OpenAFS/kerberos. This is now working but is not fully integrated into install process. Marjorie has agreed to be our main test user and now has a Windows 7 machine.
    • This Month: Order licences. Finalise rollout plan.

  • Server Hardware Interaction phase 2
    • April: Assess what's achievable in the way of making server firmware upgrades easy/routine/comprehensible.
    • Last Month: I explored some Dell options for managing firmware & BIOS updates. Raised a lot of questions, managed to get answers to some. Worked on DICE installation of Dell repository access and firmware-tools software.
    • This Month: Back to basics: working on making an inventory of BIOS and firmware versions. I hope also to document some ways of performing the updates; establish a local cache of update packages, and try the official Dell OME and OMSA upgrade tools.

  • SL6 upgrade for US Unit
    • April:
    • Last Month: wiki created. Some servers have already been done (e.g staff/student.compute and ssh logins)
    • This Month start going through remaining list identifying any that can be retired.
