Please fill in actual activity for Last Month (March) and intended activity for This Month (April) for projects you are responsible for. For reference, the intended activity recorded for March is included where an entry had been made (it is considered unhelpful to alter this to match what actual activity was :). It is acceptable to change devproj milestones as part of this process, however if you do please indicate that you have done so below, for example by adding a Change of Plan bullet point, so that the meeting is alerted to the changes.

  • Review/Update Submit Practical Submission System
    • March: Produce some automatic test scripts and put out to beta-testing. Hopefully finish the project.
    • Last Month: Produced some test scripts and tested the software.
    • This Month: Stalling until the end of session, when final adjustments will be made to the associated scripts, and the old submit will be junked and replaced by the new one.

  • Revisit Account Management
    • March: Write tests for lifecycle code. Write tool to allow creation of arbitrary prometheus entries. Bring various recent code changes into service - some of these require a bit of planning. API documentation review. Data cleanup continuation (tracked in separate project - Account Reconciliation). Put 3g database conduit into service and work with RAT on combining feeds (tracked in separate project - Prometheus: migration to new database feeds. Distribute client code to all machines (and remove old account management tools). Remove roles visibility from LDAP. Draw line under project!
    • Last Month: Put object deletion and child ownership code changes into service. Wrote code to handle entitlement inheritance for entity->identity->account objects. This allows us to have more finely-grained account-provisioning. Added support to trigger different types of downstream accounts based on entitlements. Wrote tool to manage arbitrary objects. Account lifecycle code design iterations - now complete and coded. This all gives us the ability to manage all downstream stores from prometheus, data cleanup issues notwithstanding. This completes major code development for the project.
    • This Month: Bring all recent code into service iteratively (and carefully). API documentation review. Distribute client code to all machines. Holidays will reduce amount of available effort this month. This project now expected to be complete by mid-May.

  • Final Stages of Commodity WCMS work
    • March: Finish working through the restore and then go back and update the docs with more explicit instructions (where they were lacking)
    • Last Month: Roger successfully managed to work through the restore procedure. He also clarified some steps where he thought the original could be clearer/more explicit.
    • This Month: Submit for sign off again.

  • School Database Revamp
    • March: Document portal framework and desktop construction process. Do another post-deployment update addressing issues for ITO/COs rollout and fixes for ISS Duties Allocation (this update would include finishing server inserts). Start process of identifying tasks above/below line.
    • Last Month: Identified remaining tasks (in Trac) and agreed prioritisation with ISS to allow completion for end April. Closed out all (agreed) work to do on ISS Duties, this required some additional work on the portal framework, and Theon is now the golden copy replacing the old Access db. Additional work on PGR was required to support the application process including automating the production of funding offers for EUCLID.
    • This Month: Close out all work to do on IGS Student PGR (imminent, very probably end of this week). Deploy a final PGR update. Close out all work to facilitate moving ITO/HR/Admin/COs to the new front end client (scoped and likely to be done by end of next week). Deploy a final update. Move across (with some re-training) ITO/HR/Admin/COs. Close out project (remaining documentation, final report, etc). We expect final moves to be done for the end of April but project close out likely to bleed into early May.

  • Software build farm
    • March: Finish documentation
    • Last Month: Some documentation added. Stress testing of the system. Reinstalled build machines with larger AFS cache.
    • This Month: Roll out some code improvements to improve handling of large jobs. Reinstall master server with larger AFS cache. Finish the documentation.

  • AV facilities
    • March: Mediascape here 3rd March.
    • Last Month: Mediascape completed as much as possible but faulty kit found. It has been temporarily replaced. Awaiting repair. Technicians have had hands-on training.
    • This Month: Hopefully faulty kit will be returned but G07 is heavily booked so may have to wait until May.

  • inSpace
    • March: test component (probably in parallel with an existing server (beowulf))
    • Last Month:
    • This Month:

  • LCFG layer SL6 port
    • March: Produce inf layer LCFG installed and managed box.
    • Last Month: Produced inf layer LCFG installed and managed box, including LCFG devel tools and pkgforge client, such that other units can start their SL6 projects. Started work on DICE level.
    • This Month: Complete DICE work, agree package lists with RAT, test on more platforms, check server related functionality.

  • Improvements in mirror management
    • March: "is taped" script and "report" method.
    • Last Month: Managed to do the "is taped" script, unfortunately operational stuff got in the way of finishing the "report" method.
    • This Month: Finish the "report" method, and test.

  • Redevelop User Documentation
    • March: Expand focus group and circulate alternative front pages. Work on taxonomy. Create VM rather than using desktop. Hold supervised surfer sessions.
    • Last Month: Expanded focus group to COs but little response. Created 2 VMs. Worked on taxonomy, menus, views and search facility. Held 1 surfer session. Continued porting pages.
    • This Month: More surfer sessions, expand focus group to an Institute, continue work on taxonomy and views and continue porting documentation.

  • Deploy TiBS to self managed machines
    • March: Fix issues
    • Last Month: Issues identified and fixed. More clients brought online, active retrospect users identified and encouraged to move to TiBs
    • This Month: Test new release of client software, update documentation if necessary

  • Implement print quotas via Pcounter
    • March: Test new print queue, see if quota and kerberos issues are addressed, make final decision on whether to continue on pcounter route or seek alternative solution.
    • Last Month: Print queue tested, new LPD queue set up and tested, kerberised server set up and proof of concept testing successfully completed. Discussions with IS over mechanics of switch over held.
    • This Month: Produce header files for kerberised server. Web based printing for hosts which cannot use kerberised printing directly. Desktop widget showing printing credit

  • loghost implementation
    • March: Get the component written! Test again using the netinf machines.
    • Last Month:
    • This Month:

  • DICE F12^h3
    • March: finish draft and submit.
    • Last Month:
    • This Month:

  • Move www.inf to new technology
    • March: Hopefully solve the folder listing problem. But want to prioritise finishing the mirror project.
    • Last Month: Installed DR web machine at KB. It's only taking a basic extra rsync copy of www.inf data just now. The full DR plan and implementation is still do be done. Nothing further done on the folder listing problem. I've not had any reports of the odd HTTPS problems, so perhaps the fix to stop the zope server threading has fixed that.
    • This Month: Holidays will probably get in the way, put possibly more DR work, and look at the folder listing again.

  • Prometheus AFS PTS conduit
    • March: Depends on priorities of this and other projects.
    • Last Month: Coding started
    • This Month: Complete and test -> signoff

  • Account reconciliation
    • March:
    • Last Month: Stalled on prometheus framework changes.
    • This Month: Pick up again; Start deleting people.

  • Prometheus: migration to new database feeds
    • March:
    • Last Month: Modified plan for 2g/3g transition to use two co-operating conduits and wrote code accordingly. There will now be no need for a combined feed or conduit.
    • This Month: Test and bring code into service, pending RAT investigation of discrepancies in 3g feed.

  • Further AFS development and automation
    • March: (This project wasn't started last month; Chris sneaked it in here.)
    • Last Month: Set up test cell. Played with AFS.
    • This Month: Develop script to find read-only copies of disaster-struck read-write volumes and convert them to read-write. Start tackling the automated distribution of volumes across servers.
