AT gas explosion exercise, January 2014

Over the weekend, as a result of a gas explosion in the basement of
Appleton Tower, all of our IT equipment in the AT basement has been
destroyed.

All units please :-

*) identify which of your kit has been affected and inform User support
of any effect on your services.
*) check that all data affected is being backed up successfully
*) test recover a service - which service to be mutually agreed with HoC
(CEG in case of MPU). This service must involve the restoring, from
offsite backup, of data.

We do not need to consider how this would affect the end users of the
building, so Infrastructure need not consider network provision unless
it affects the Forum.

Units should produce a report on what services have been affected, state
of backups, lessons learnt etc by Monday 20th February (date negotiable
with myself).

To minimise the effort of this exercise on the "live" service, assume a
time slew of 1 week = 2 days. To allow for the likelihood that the Forum
would be inaccessible for at least some time after the disaster, to
allow for a structural investigation, you should assume that all work
required in day 1 of the disaster would need to be carried out remotely
(eg from home, public lab, KB etc). Note that the slew need not be a
strictly linear slew, but it would be helpful if the first stage
(identification) was completed by the end of today.
